Berlin-based artist René Wirths (b. 1967) seeks to face the object’s essence by constantly challenging the established understanding of the object and the cognitive mechanism of processing information with images from mass media. Wirths art excludes the act of judging an object with a pre-established armament, as he argues: “First see the immediate environment as it is, without evaluating it.” To him, the degree of realistic representation of the object is of little importance. Divorcing himself from the traditions of hyper-realistic art, such as photorealism, the artist refuses to use media such as photographs, projectors, or templates when transferring the object from a three-dimensional reality to a two-dimensional canvas. Wirths observes the object under the natural light in his studio and captures the changing light and the object’s state while drawing it on canvas, manifesting a coincidentia oppositorum of discontinuity and continuity in his works. At this point, Wirths’s still-life objects are projected in a static perspective viewed from a particular direction; however, at the same time, the fragmentations of the object seen from various perspectives are overlapped on that frame, which adds a life-like dynamicity to his painting. Wirths’s works are owned by Musee d’Art Moderne de Paris, Kunstmuseum Bremerhaven, Kunststiftung Museum Maulbronn, and Scheringa Museum of Realist Art.

"먼저 판단하지 않고, 즉각적으로 대상을 마주하고자 한다(first see the immediate environment as it is, without evaluating it)"는 그의 말처럼, 워스는 머릿속에 있는 도식으로 대상을 판단하는 행위를 배제한 접근법을 통해 작품을 제작한다. 작가에게 있어 대상을 얼마나 사실적으로 재현해 내는지는 중요하지 않다. 포토 리얼리즘과는 다르게 사진이나 프로젝터, 템플릿과 같은 매체를 사용하지 않고, 대상을 3차원에서 2차원의 화면으로 옮긴다. 그는 작업실의 자연광 아래에서 대상을 관찰하며, 캔버스 위로 옮기는 과정에서 변화하는 빛과 대상의 상태를 화면 안에 담으려 노력함으로써 작품 안에 비지속성과 지속성이라는 모순된 성질이 공존하도록 한다. 요컨대 작품 속 정물들은 모두 한 방향에서 바라본 듯한 정적인 시점을 암시하지만, 동시에 여러 방면에서 본 형태가 묘사되어 마치 살아있는 것 같은 역동성을 지닌다. 르네 워스의 작품은 현재 파리 시립 현대 미술관, 브레머하펜 현대 미술관, 쿤스트티프트 미술관, 셰링가 사실주의 미술관 등에 소장되어 있다.
