40 Years of Gana Art

Gana Art is pleased to announce an exhibition titled 1983-2023, 40 Years of Gana Art, marking the 40th anniversary of our founding. The upcoming exhibition will take a look back on the gallery’s achievements since its founding in the neighborhood of Insa-dong, Seoul in 1983, and envision our future based on our accomplishments thus far by presenting records of 720 exhibitions and projects held by Gana Art and major artworks of our collections.

Gana Korean Modern Art Collection and Gana European Art Collection featured in this exhibition are achievements of the past four decades of Gana Art. 40 Years of Gana Art includes works by Park Soo Keun, Lee Jung-seop, and Lee In-sung, who occupy an important position in Korean art history and works by Miquel Barceló, César Baldaccini, Pierre Alechinsky, Antoni Tàpies, and other contemporary artists from Europe, where we plan to hold our first overseas exhibition. Gana Art’s continuous growth within our chosen territory of art, and the building of a unique art collection has become synonymous with our identity. Based on our belief in the social role and value of the gallery, We will continue to contribute to the culture of Korean Art, and will always remember our humble beginnings as we pursue new endeavors while strengthening our foundation.

1983-2023 가나화랑-가나아트

가나아트는 40주년 개관 기념전 《1983 – 2023, 가나화랑 – 가나아트》를 개최한다. 가나아트가 지금껏 개최한 720여회의 전시 및 진행 사업의 기록과 그동안 수집해온 컬렉션 중 주요작 60여점을 공개하는 본 전시는 1983년 인사동에서 시작한 가나화랑이 지금의 가나아트로 성장해온 40년의 시간을 돌아보고, 그동안 축적한 결과물을 발판으로 앞으로의 시간을 그려보는 자리다.

전시는 가나아트의 지난 40년을 돌아보며 시작된다. 1전시장에는 1983년부터 2023년까지 가나아트가 개최한 720여회의 전시와 사업들을 돌아볼 수 있는 연표와 도록, 포스터 등 각종 기록들을 공개한다. 이어지는 2·3전시장에서는 가나아트 40년 업력의 결과물, Gana Korean Modern Art Collection과 Gana European Art Collection을 선보인다. 주요 작품으로는 한국 미술사에서 중요한 위치를 점하고 있는 구본웅, 나혜석, 박수근 이중섭, 이인성 등을 비롯해 가나아트가 첫 해외진출 목적지로 삼은 유럽의 현대미술 작가, 안젤름 키퍼, 안토니 곰리, 세자르, 마크 퀸, 미켈 바르셀로 등이 있다

가나아트가 지금까지 한국 미술 시장에서 새로운 영역을 개척하며 이뤄낸 성취와 작품 수집의 궤적은 곧 가나아트의 정체성이다. 가나아트는 계속해서 화랑의 사회적 역할과 가치를 되새기고, 언제나 젊은 청년의 모습으로 ‘가나다라’부터 다지며 한국 미술 문화의 발전을 위한 도전을 이어가고자 한다.
