Gana Art is pleased to present a permanent exhibition, 《A Stroll Along》, at Gana Art Nineone and Gana Art Sounds to provide a space for tracing a tendency of abstract art and its current as naturally taking a stroll along abstraction, which still takes a major role in the contemporary art scene. Abstract art has dominated an art scene in the 20th century, initiated from the 19th century, with its formative elements including plot, line, and face—deviating from the traditional style, representing a specific object of nature. It relies on artists’ and viewers’ intuition by means of simplifying an expression method, and simultaneously agitates an appreciator’s emotion with its sensible color. Sam Gilliam(1933-), who aroused the American abstract expressionism in the 1950s and 60s, and was a part of Washington Color School, has particularly spurred a spectator’s sensibility by exploiting his lyrical tone. He has been acclaimed for leading a liberation of canvas, drapping his color-stained canvas across walls. Moreover, visitors may also retrace a mark of abstract art along with Kulim Kim who steers the avant-garde in Korea, and will be fascinated by facing other emerging artists including Pablo Tomek, Travis Fish, An Sungha, Lee Youngrim.

산책

가나아트는 동시대 미술에서 여전히 주요하게 자리하고 있는 추상미술의 흐름을 산책하듯 자연스레 파악할 수 있는 장을 마련하고자 ≪산책(A Stroll Along)≫ 전시를 가나아트 나인원과 가나아트 사운즈에서 동시에 개최한다. 19세기에 시작된 추상미술은 자연의 구체적 대상을 재현함에서 벗어나 점, 선, 면 등 조형적 요소로 표현하는 양식의 미술을 총칭하며 20세기 미술의 주류를 이루었다. 추상미술은 표현방식의 단순화로 인해 작가와 감상자의 직관에 의존하기도 하지만 작품의 감성적 색채를 통해 보는 이들의 감정을 움직이게 만든다. 특히 이번 전시를 통해 소개되는 샘 길리엄(Sam Gilliam, 1933-)은 워싱턴 컬러 스쿨의 일원으로 1950-60년대에 미국 추상표현주의를 이끌었던 작가이며, 서정적 색채로 감상자의 감수성을 자극하는 작업을 전개한다. 그는 얼룩진 캔버스를 마치 벽에 걸린 커튼처럼 늘어놓은 독특한 작업방식으로 인해 캔버스의 해방을 이끌었다는 평을 받기도 한다. 또한 한국의 전위예술을 이끈 김구림과 함께 파블로 토멕(Pablo Tomek), 트래비스 피쉬(Travis Fish), 안성하, 이영림 등 국내외 주목받는 작가의 작품을 통해 추상미술의 여정을 따라가며 그만의 매력을 느낄 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.
