Social interest in NFT art has been intensified as digitally creative artworks can be granted with economic value through the Non-Fungible Token or NFT, a technology to verify the originality and ownership of digital content. Against this backdrop, XXBLUE presents Binary Medium, an exhibition to shed light on NFT art as a new genre of art touting independent aesthetic value of its own in the digital world. Both physical and NFT works of eight artists are showcased: Kim Nam Pyo, Kim SunWoo, Kim Whan Ki, You Sun Tai, Lee Wal Chong, Jang Koal, Ji Yong Ho and Choi Wool Ga. NFT enables boundless creative work beyond any physical constraint in the real world, transcending simply digitalized physical exhibits, requiring creative work in a psychic domain beyond physical human labor. It is wished that this exhibition could examine NFT art as a new genre of art to be appreciated in the new era, instead of being perceived as mere digital asset.

디지털 콘텐츠에 원본성과 소유권을 입증할 수 있게 하는 기술인 NFT로 인해, 디지털 창작물에 경제적 가치를 부여할 수 있게 되면서 NFT 아트에 대한 사회적 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 XXBLUE에서는 NFT아트를 디지털 세계에서 나름의 독립적인 미학적 가치를 지닌 새로운 예술로 바라보는 전시 《Binary Medium》을 개최한다. 전시에는 김남표, 김선우, 김환기, 유선태, 이왈종, 장콸, 지용호, 최울가 등 8명 작가의 실물 작품과 NFT 작품을 함께 전시한다. NFT 아트는 단순히 디지털화된 실물 작품이 아니며, 현실의 물리적 제약에서 벗어난 자유로운 창작이 가능하기에, 신체행위의 물리적 노동 이상으로 정신적 창작이 필요한 새로운 예술이다. 이번 전시를 통해 디지털 자산(Digital Asset)으로서 NFT 아트를 인식하기보다는, 새로운 시대의 예술이라는 측면에서 감상의 대상으로서 바라보기를 희망한다.
