NOVELLA VISTA

Gana Art is pleased to present NOVELLA VISTA, a group exhibition showcasing the current movement of the art world. The word “NOVELLA VISTA” from Dante Alighieri(unknown-1321)’s The Divine Comedy: Paradiso refers to a new vision without any stains blurring the sight.’ This exhibition of six international artists will highlight the artistic movement focusing on graffiti, street art, and city art.

In the late 1970s, street art started as a form of graffiti tagging names on walls. Street art began to represent the people with its increasing popularity as a subculture among the disenfranchised group. The selected artists in this show have developed their unique visual language based on street art and they are also practicing on diverse areas including graffiti, large-scale mural, painting, sculpture, and installation. These artists are showing a new visual paradigm where western artistic tradition and technology meets. Furthermore, they are also trying to communicate with our surroundings by capturing exceptionally ordinary scenes of life in the city. Through their distinctive artworks applying untraditional artistic medium and technique, NOVELLA VISTA will offer an intriguing experience of dynamic contemporary art.

NOVELLA VISTA

가나아트는 미술의 흐름을 대변하는 전시 ≪NOVELLA VISTA≫를 진행한다. 단테의 『신곡: 천국편』에 등장하는 단어 ‘노벨라 비스타’는 ‘시야를 흐리게 하는 얼룩이 제거된 새로운 비전’을 의미하는 것으로, 이번 전시에서는 동시대 미술 현장에서 주목받고 있는 6인의 해외작가들을 소개하여 그래피티와 거리미술, 도시미술을 중심으로 변화하는 현대 예술의 새로운 흐름을 제시하고자 한다.

1970년대 후반 도시의 담벼락에 익명으로 이름을 남기는 그래피티로 시작된 거리미술은 사회의 소외계층을 대변하는 하위문화로 자리를 잡으며 대중을 대변하는 예술로 성장했다. 본 전시에 참여하는 작가들의 독창적인 예술세계는 거리미술에 뿌리를 두고 출발하여 낙서와 대형벽화뿐만 아니라 회화와 조각, 설치 작업까지 그 영역을 확장하고 있다. 또한 이들은 서구의 예술적 전통과 기술 문명이 교차하는 새로운 시각적 패러다임을 보여주며, 도시를 살아가는 개개인의 일상을 소재로 우리를 둘러싼 환경과 소통하고 있다. 기존의 예술적 전통을 허무는 소재와 재료로 독창적인 작업을 이어가는 이들의 작품을 통해 이번 전시 ≪NOVELLA VISTA≫에서 현대미술의 패러다임을 변화시키고 있는 역동적인 움직임을 경험할 수 있길 기대한다.
