Park Chelho
Ripple

Gana Art is pleased to present 《Ripple》, a solo exhibition of Park Chelho (b. 1965-). Park has been exploring values of human existence based on his philosophy that human life circulates as part of nature. Born in Uiseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Park’s childhood memories related to the natural environment contributed to the creation of his unconscious perception of nature which is evident in his distinctive visual language. He embodies nature in an abstract form with a unique sensibility, and as a result, his paintings contain the delicate lines of Mother Nature. The exhibition features a new series of work, called <Ripple>, which speaks about the circulation of humans and nature through the representation of ocean waves and light shining between them. Each work from the <Ripple> series conveys different appearances of nature seen from different angles, and the artist adopts two different ways to capture such scenes. Firstly, for the works that express waves on the water’s surface, Park uses different shades of blue to create rhythmic qualities of the swaying waves. And in the other works, the artist visualizes sparkling light rays shining on the water seen from a broader perspective. In other words, the exhibition deals with the theme of ‘grand nature’ which the artist has been exploring throughout his life, and shows how his perception of waves and light is visually represented while inviting the viewer to nature filled with blue hues.

Ripple

가나아트는 자연을 추상적인 이미지로 시각화하는 박철호(b. 1965-)의 개인전, 《Ripple》을 가나아트센터 제3관에서 개최한다. 작가는 작업 초기부터 인간의 삶 역시도 자연의 일부로서 순환한다는 철학을 바탕으로, 인간의 존재가치에 대한 탐구를 지속하고 있다. 경북 의성 출생의 그는 유년 시절에 경험한 자연에서 영감을 얻었으며 작가 특유의 감성적 시선으로 자연을 추상적인 형태로 구현한다. 본 전시에서는 수면 위의 물결과 물결 사이의 빛을 통해 인간과 자연이 순환함을 드러내는 신작 <Ripple(파문)>연작을 선보인다. 그의 <Ripple>연작은 자연을 보는 위치에 따라 그 결을 표현하는 방식에서의 차이를 두었는데, 이는 두 가지 형상으로 작품에 구현된다. 먼저 수면 위의 물결을 표현한 작품은 주로 푸른색을 사용하여 흐릿한 색과 짙은 색상의 농담이 서로 겹치며 리듬감이 느껴지는 일렁이는 형태로 표현된다. 그리고 다른 형상은 자연을 보는 시야를 넓혀, 보다 먼 곳에 있는 수면 위에 미세하게 반짝이는 빛을 시각화한 것이다. 특히, 본 전시의 백미는 너비가 약 10미터에 달하는 설치 작품으로 압도적인 스케일에서 관람자를 압도할 뿐만이 아니라 광활한 자연이라는 작가의 일생의 주제를 집약적으로 보여준다. 작가가 무의식에 깊이 지녀온 물결과 빛에 대한 인식을 시각적 언어로 번역한 <Ripple> 연작을 공개하는 이번 전시는 보는 이들을 푸른 대자연 속으로 인도할 것이다.
