Gana Art Nineone, in collaboration with Matt Black, is pleased to present Travis Fish’s first solo exhibition in Asia. Travis Fish was featured in Gana Art’s group show Reflections: Open Ended in 2020. Using Instagram as his fountain of inspiration, he captures contemporary themes and implements them into his compositions. The new body of work titled Photocopy Breakfast features portraits made of a mash-up of brands, hyper trends and art. Travis Fish has created his own aesthetic by blending pop culture with art references to question our relationship with an ultra capitalistic society. The exhibition will be an opportunity to visually experience the artist’s screenshot of our time.

가나아트 나인원은 영상 제작자이자 큐레이터인 맷 블랙(Matt Black)과의 협업으로 브루클린과 위스콘신을 기반으로 활동하는 트래비스 피쉬(Travis Fish, b.1989-)의 아시아 첫 개인전 《Photocopy Breakfast》를 개최한다. 트래비스 피쉬는 2020년도 가나아트 나인원과 가나아트 사운즈에서 열린 ≪Reflections: Open Ended≫ 기획전에 참가하여 많은 주목을 받은 바 있다. 그는 유명 패션 브랜드의 의상이나 악세서리 같은 시선을 사로잡는 모티프들을 그려내 패션과 순수미술을 결합한 작품을 선보였다. 이번 전시의 신작에서는 현재 소셜미디어 상에서 자주 언급되는 유명인사들의 인물화가 돋보이는데, 이는 소셜미디어와 유행을 선도하는 인물에 대한 작가의 오마주인 동시에 동시대의 트렌드를 순간적으로 포착하여 화면에 구현해낸 결과물이다. 이에 본 전시는 격동하는 동시대를 예리하게 포착하는 트래비스 피쉬만의 시선을 감상할 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 문화의 층위를 구분 짓지 않는 작가의 포용성을 시각적으로 경험할 수 있는 뜻깊은 자리가 될 것이라 기대한다.
