Yoriko Takabatake
Venus

Gana Art Hannam is pleased to present Yoriko Takabatake’s first solo exhibition in Korea who dedicated to renowned Japanese artist. The《Venus》 exhibition features a selection of twenty new paintings by the artists, which her use of combining uncontrollable elements such as water, fire and wind and painting medium. This exhibition will be showing strong and dynamic style of paintings which are created by experimental methods such as spilling paint on the water and moving it on the panel or igniting the surface of the painting to make the paint melt. Her new works express the free motion of paint, which in the past, her artworks had a strong feeling of controlling paint. She creates a small tank of sorts that fill with water, and then proceeds to drip various lines of paint upon waterproofed surface. After drifting along the surface of water for some time, the paint gradually sinks to the bottom to fixate on the panel and captures the lines of paint. In this way, elements such as the current and pressure of the water as well as gravity, function as agents in creating unique works that permeate with an air of transient levitation. Fire plays the role of heating small tanks to transform paint into freer forms or expresses the melting of magma by heating fire directly in a panel picture. By utilizing the elements of water and fire, she conveyed a feeling of supporting paint or expressed a new sensation of texture.

가나아트 한남은 현재 주목받고 있는 일본 작가, 요리코 타카바타케(Yoriko Takabatake, 1982-)의 첫 국내 개인전을 개최한다. 이번 ≪Venus≫전에서 선보이는 타카바타케의 신작은 물, 불, 바람 등의 통제 불가능한 요소와 회화 매체 간의 결합을 특징으로 구성 되어있다. 이번 전시에서는 수면에 물감을 흘려 판넬에 옮기거나 회화 표면에 불을 가해 물감을 녹여내는 등의 실험적인 제작방식이 만들어낸 강렬하고 역동적인 화면의 회화가 전시될 예정이다. 초기의 그녀의 수작업으로 형성된 작품들은 물감을 통제하는 느낌이 강했다면, 이번 신작은 물감이 자유자재로 움직이는 형태를 표현한다. 방수처리를 한 작은 수조를 제작하여, 물을 담고 그 수면에 다양한 물감 가닥들을 흘려낸 후, 수면 위의 물감은 일정 시간이 흐른 후 서서히 가라앉아 판넬 혹은 종이에 자리잡는다. 물의 흐름, 수압, 그리고 중력과 같은 다양한 요소에 의해 순간적으로 부양하는 듯한 분위기를 자아내는 작품을 만들어낸다. 불은 작은 수조를 가열해서 물감을 더 자유로운 형태로 변형시키는 역할을 하거나 혹은 판넬 그림에 직접 불을 가열하여 마그마가 녹아내리는 형상을 표현하기도 한다. 물과 불의 요소를 활용함으로써 물감을 부양하는 느낌을 전달하거나 새로운 질감의 느낌을 표현한다.
