Kawauchi Rikako presents works inspired by the theme of 'body' and 'food.' Employing a perspective that blends elements of mythology and cultural anthropology, she explores the intricate relationships between predators and prey, human beings, and various species. "The canvas's surface punches back at me and resists," her works reflecting an intuitive expression resembling a struggle between the artist, canvas, and the material's texture.
She extends the scope of her work by using various mediums such as drawing, painting, wire, resin, rubber tubes, and neon lights.
In her new works created for this exhibition, the human body and fruits are interconnected through color gradients spanning from crimson, purple, pink, brown, to gray. In her artwork, the heads resemble grapefruits or strawberries, and sometimes transform into nipples or breasts. Heads extend from the swaying fingertips, and the tongues emerging from these heads appear akin to fingernails. Hearts coexist with stars, and the stars overlap with starfish. Through these strange and sensual imaginative landscapes, her artwork connects various species while suggesting that the boundary between inside and outside of objects are, after all, one.

가와우치 리카코는 '신체'와 '음식'에 영감을 받은 작업을 선보인다. 그녀는 포식자와 피식자, 사람과 사람, 서로 다른 생물 간의 다양한 상호관계를 신화적이면서도 문화인류학적인 시각으로 작품 속에 풀어낸다. "캔버스의 평면이 나를 향해 주먹질을 하고 저항한다"는 작가의 말처럼, 그녀의 작품은 마치 작가와 캔버스, 소재의 질감이 서로 격투하는 듯한 직관적이고 반사적인 형태를 고스란히 담고 있다. 그녀는 드로잉이나 페인팅에 더불어 철사, 수지(레진), 고무 튜브, 네온관과 같은 다양한 매체를 이용해 작업의 영역을 확장하고 있다.
이번 전시를 위한 신작에서는 진홍색, 보라색, 분홍색, 갈색, 회색 등 다양한 색상의 그라데이션 속에서 신체 및 과일이 자유롭게 연결되고 얽혀 있는 것을 볼 수 있다. 그녀의 작품 속에서 사람의 머리는 자몽이나 딸기처럼 표현되기도 하고, 유두나 유방으로 변하기도 한다. 손끝에 매달려 흔들리는 머리와, 그 머리에서 튀어나온 혀는 마치 손톱같이 보인다. 심장과 함께 그려진 별은 마치 불가사리와 같은 형상을 하고 있다. 이렇듯 기묘하고 관능적인 심상적 풍경을 통해, 그녀의 작품은 다양한 생물 종을 연결하며 동시에 사물의 안과 밖이 결국 하나임을 제시한다.
