Yokoyama Nami presents a series of still-life that feature objects consumed and discarded in everyday life. One of Yokoyama's painting series, Shape of Your Words, is a translation of actual neon signs described into paintings. She gathers handwritten words from diverse sources—family, friends, fellow travelers, and colleagues—and transforms these expressions into neon signs crafted by skilled professionals. The neon signs and the artworks, featuring representations of diverse handwriting styles, can be regarded as portraits reflecting the individuals who wrote them. The artist emphasizes the importance of realism in her work, meticulously rendering the neon signs' texture, light, and intricate wiring, heightening the sense of reality. In addition, the English words used as motifs in the series, such as "LOVE" and "HISTORY," seem simple given the historical background of the English language but carry deep meanings. In this exhibition, the motif of "LOVE" takes center stage. Through five detailed works, Yokoyama captures the vibrant red glow of neon and delves into the intricate structures underpinning its brilliance. These artworks serve as more than visual representations; they are a profound inquiry into the intrinsic meaning of the word 'LOVE' as it permeates various facets of contemporary life.

요코야마 나미는 일상에서 소모되고 버려지는 사물을 오브제로 삼은 정물화 연작을 선보인다. 요코야마의 회화 연작 중 하나인는 실제 네온사인을 평면 회화로 옮긴 연작이다. 그녀는 가족과 친구, 여행지에서 만난 이들, 함께 일한 동료 등 다양한 사람들이 직접 손으로 써낸 단어를 도안삼아 전문 업체를 통해 실제 네온사인을 제작한다. 다양한 필적을 세밀하게 표현한 네온사인과 그것을 그려낸 작품은 각 글씨를 쓴 사람의 일종의 초상화라고도 할 수 있다. 작가는 이 연작에서 실제와 같은 묘사, 즉 네온사인의 질감이나 빛과 더불어 실제감을 증폭하는 구조물인 기구나 배선 등의 묘사가 중요하다고 말한다. 또한 해당 연작에 모티프로 사용된 ‘LOVE’, ‘HISTORY’ 와 같은 영단어는 영어의 역사적 배경을 고려했을때 단순해 보이지만 깊은 의미를 내포하고 있다. 본 전시에 출품된 LOVE를 모티프로 한 다섯 작품은 밝게 빛나는 붉은 네온과 함께 그 뒤의 구조 까지도 상세히 묘사하고 있다. 해당 연작에는 다양한 곳에서 소비되는 ‘LOVE’라는 단어의 본질적 의미에 대한 작가의 의문이 담겨있다.
