It’s Good to Be Here

Gana Art is pleased to present It’s Good to Be Here, Brooklyn-based artist Aaron Johnson (b.1975)’s second solo show in Korea, with new paintings that focus on togetherness and reflections on oneness with nature. These new paintings show mystical spaces where figures revel in a transcendental interconnectivity between all beings and with the natural world. The enchanting ethereal beings that occupy these paintings are endearing, sometimes humorous characters, and other times angelic or ghostly. All of them are born out of a flowing spontaneous method of working with fluid paint, until the character comes to life like a vision on the canvas. Allowing the paint to flow freely, the process connects with the ideas of cosmic and natural forces. Inviting the viewers into Aaron’s mysterious spirit realms, this show will offer a dreamlike experience that unravels the artist’s visual language and subconscious.

가나아트는 브루클린 기반의 작가 애런 존슨(Aaron Johnson, b.1975)의 국내 두 번째 개인전, 《It’s Good to Be Here》를 개최하여 자연과의 일체성에 초점을 맞춘 신작을 선보인다. 본 개인전에 출품된 신작들은 모든 존재와 자연과의 초월적인 상호 작용이 이뤄지는 정신 영역을 배경으로 한다. 그의 작품에 등장하는 사랑스럽고 익살스러운 모습의 흐릿한 인물 형상들은 실존 인물이 아닌 천상의 존재거나 유령이다. 이들은 우연한 형상이 만들어질 때까지 물감의 예측 불가능하며 유동적이고 다양한 효과를 실험하는 작가의 붓끝에서 탄생한다. 캔버스 위로 물감이 자연스럽게 번지거나 흐르는 작업 과정은 자연과 우주가 지닌 근원적인 힘을 마주하고자 하는 작가의 예술 세계와 연결되어 있다. 애런 존슨의 몽환적인 정신 영역으로 관람객을 초대하는 본 전시가 작가의 독특한 시각 언어와 잠재의식을 엿볼 수 있는 기회가 되기를 기대한다.
