Bang & Lee
Carrying the Ghost

Gana Art Nineone is pleased to announce 《Carrying the Ghost》, an exhibition of works by Bang & Lee, a two-person collective consisting of Bang Jayoung (b.1977) and Lee Yunjun (b.1971). Developing diverse research-based projects regarding new media art installation, Bang & Lee has worked as a duo since 2006 as they have formed a consensus on the social role and critical interpretation of media art. Therefore, their installation projects feature issues such as intellectual property rights, open source, and personal privacy with focus on the critical interpretations and relationships of new technologies. The exhibition will highlight their recent series including text drawing and 3D animation, as well as their representative optical fiber projections and light installations which Bang & Lee has developed throughout their artistic practice since their return to Korea. These individual works are virtually connected to each other, and they allow the viewers to engage in diverse interpretations depending on the installation layout or exhibition space. By featuring Bang & Lee’s representative installations and recent series, this exhibition will offer an opportunity to recollect our missing stories and lost time.

Carrying the Ghost

가나아트는 방자영(b.1977)과 이윤준(b.1971) 2인 컬렉티브로 구성된 방앤리의 개인전 《Carrying the Ghost》를 개최한다. 문학을 전공한 방자영과 시각예술을 전공한 이윤준은 현대사회에서 미디어아트가 지닌 사회적 역할 및 비평적인 해석에 대해 공감대를 형성하여 2006년부터 듀오로 활동하며 뉴미디어아트 설치를 기반으로 다양한 프로젝트를 전개해왔다. 방앤리의 설치작업에는 지적재산권, 오픈소스, 개인의 사생활에 대한 이슈들이 꾸준히 등장하며, 첨단 기술력의 표면에 관심을 두는 대신 새로운 기술에 대한 비평적인 해석과 관계성에 더욱 집중한다. 이번 전시는 방앤리가 귀국 후 집중적으로 연구해온 광섬유 프로젝션과 조명 설치 연작을 재조명할 뿐 아니라, 텍스트 드로잉 및 3D 애니메이션 등 매체와 콘셉트를 확장한 다양한 신작을 처음 선보일 예정이다. 본 전시의 출품작들은 독립적으로 존재하면서도 서로 유기적으로 연결되어 있으며, 배치와 전시공간에 따라 다양한 해석을 끌어낼 수 있는 점이 특징이다. 그들의 대표 설치작품과 신작들을 함께 감상할 수 있는 이번 개인전이 우리가 그간 놓쳐왔던 이야기와 잃어버린 시간에 대해 재고해보는 기회가 되길 기대한다.
