In collaboration with Curator Matt Black, Gana Art Nineone is pleased to present José Parlá’s first solo exhibition in South Korea. José Parlá who was featured in a group show ≪Reflections≫ in 2019 has established a style of painting that transforms the language of the street into a hybrid form of abstraction and urban realism. For the exhibition, the artist presents 10 paintings of significant importance embodying our world in global pandemic and social upheaval. With marking, hidden messages, and gestures, José has masterfully and honestly captured our turbulent times. The exhibition will be an opportunity to experience works that ultimately delivers a message of supreme hope through the artist’s unique vision, sensibility, and commitment.

가나아트 나인원은 큐레이터 맷 블랙 (Matt Black)과의 협업으로 브루클린을 기반으로 활동하는 현대미술가 호세 팔라 (José Parlá, 1973-)의 국내 첫 개인전을 개최한다. 2019년도 ≪Reflections≫ 기획전에 참가하여 많은 주목을 받았던 호세 팔라는 도시 속 거리의 역동적인 에너지를 현실적이면서도 추상적인 형태로 변형한 복합적인 화풍을 구축해 왔다. 본 전시에서 작가는 전염병의 확산에 따른 세계적인 불안감과 격변하는 사회적 분위기를 반영하는 10점의 회화를 선보인다. 본 전시는 작가가 율동적인 몸짓을 통해 화면 위에 남긴 흔적인 회화에서 격동하는 동시대를 예리하게 포착하는 호세 팔라만의 시선을 감상할 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 이로써 궁극적으로는 희망의 메시지를 전달하고자 하는 작가의 숨겨둔 의도를 경험할 수 있는 뜻 깊은 자리가 될 것으로 기대한다.
