New Acquisition 2022

Gana Foundation for Arts and Culture is pleased to announce New Acquisitions 2022, an exhibition in which purchased and donated works during 2022 by and to the Foundation are presented. As an annual exhibit, it follows the previous show New Acquisitions 2020-2021.

The Foundation endeavours to collect Korean artworks significant in art history. This year, to expand the modern Korean art part, we collected Kwon Jin Kyu’s works (purchased and donated); Park Saeng Kwang’s folding screen of the 1950s; Son Eung Sung and Byun Jong Ha’s paintings of the 1970s; and two paintings from 1983 by Moon Miae, who worked in New York and is a frontier of the Korean abstract art movement. Furthermore, we also collected large-scale contemporary artworks to archive Korean contemporary art.

For this exhibition, we want to express our tremendous respect and gratitude to those who supported collecting, especially our donators.

신소장품 2022

가나문화재단은 2023년 〈신소장품 2022〉전을 개최합니다. 2022년 한 해 동안 구입, 기증받은 작품들을 공개하는 전시로, 작년의 〈신소장품 2020-2021〉에 이어 열리는 재단의 정기 전시입니다.

신규로 입수된 소장품 가운데 단연 눈에 띄는 것은 권진규의 작품 7점입니다. 그중에서도 권진규가 남긴 건칠 가운데 가장 큰 작품이자, 동선동 작업실에서 작가의 최후를 지켜본 <십자가 위 그리스도>와 아내 ‘도모’와의 사연이 투영된 작품 <재회>를 대표작으로 꼽을 수 있으며, 1964년의 소소한 일상과 인물 형상의 고민이 담긴 드로잉 작품도 주목됩니다. 그 외에도 한국 근대미술 컬렉션의 보강과 확장의 의미에서 50년대 박생광의 병풍 1점과 손응성과 변종하의 70년대 작품, 뉴욕을 기반으로 활동하던 한국 초기 추상미술운동의 역사, 문미애의 83년 작품 2점도 수집했습니다.

가나문화재단은 미술자산의 대중화와 공익화를 위해 작품 수집에 더욱 적극적으로 나서려 합니다. 이는 재단 혼자의 노력으로는 부족할 것입니다. 2022년 신규 소장품도 권진규 작품의 체계적 수집을 위해 기꺼이 협조해 주신 사단법인 권진규 기념사업회의 결정이 있었기에 더욱 풍요로워질 수 있었습니다. 명작의 수집과 기증에 도움을 주신 분들께 깊은 존경과 감사를 전하며, 우리 사회의 미술품 기증 문화가 보다 활성화되어 이것이 한국 미술 발전에 비옥한 밑거름이 되기를 바랍니다.
