Reflections: Human/Nature

Gana Art Hannam is pleased to present REFLECTIONS HUMAN/NATURE curated by Matt Black. A follow up to REFLECTIONS and REFLECTIONS: OPEN ENDED, the third installment is an exciting continuation of the dialogue between emerging and established artists. The title “Reflections” follows contemporary art trends, while combining the subtitle “Human/Nature” to highlight the different themes. As implied by the title, this exhibition focuses on artists who visualize human and nature. They capture and reflect the nature of an individual’s personality and feelings that implicitly reveal itself in a coexisting life. Furthermore, the subtitle contains dual meanings that they are sharing their personal feelings to the audience, as it is a part of “human nature” to share our inner thoughts with others. Reflections: Human/Nature offers a space to reinterpret life that is seen from every artists’ own perspective.

Reflections: Human/Nature

가나아트 한남은 동시대 미술 현장에서 주목받고 있는 18명의 작가들이 참가하는 ≪Reflections: Human/Nature≫를 개최한다. 이번 전시는 2019년 ≪Reflections≫전과 2020년 ≪Reflections: Open Ended≫전에 이어, 영상 제작자이자 큐레이터로 활동하고 있는 맷 블랙(Matt Black)과의 세 번째 협업으로 개최되는 기획전이다. 본 전시는 앞선 전시와 같이 “Reflections”라는 전시명을 사용하여 동시대 미술의 흐름을 반영한다는 의미를 이어가고, 이에 부제인 “Human/Nature”를 덧붙임으로써 차별화된 주제를 부각하고자 한다. 전시명에서 유추할 수 있듯, 본 전시는 인간과 자연이라는 주제를 시각 언어로 풀어내는 작가들에 주목하였다. 그들은 타인과 공존하는 삶 속에서 은연중에 드러나게 되는 개인의 성격, 감정, 개성과 같은 본성들을 포착하여 이를 작품에 반영하고, 우리 주위를 둘러싼 대상들의 본질을 시각적으로 표현하고자 한다. 더 나아가 작가들 역시 감정과 경험을 타인과 나누려 하는 인간의 보편적 특성(human nature)에 기인하여 그들의 개인적 감정과 경험을 관객과 공유하려 한다는 이중적인 의미 또한 부제에 담겨있다. 가나아트는 이번 전시가 국내에서 접하기 어려운 작품을 감상할 수 있는 기회이자, 작가들의 독특한 시선으로 바라본 삶의 일면을 관람객이 재해석하며 상호 소통할 수 있는 장이 되기를 기대한다.
